the british volkswagen festival (bvf)

Show report by Kirsty Walker…

This was my first BVF… and only my second visit to the Malvern showground.  I travelled down on my own from Leicester (via work in Birmingham) in the T25.  This was my first trip out in the van on my own and I was a little nervous driving the 90 miles or so but really enjoyed being above everyone else in the van.  So OK, I admit, I enjoyed driving the T25, but it wasn’t to last as we sold it at the show.

The trade and auto-jumble covered a large area of the site providing you with new and old parts for your pride and joy.  Once again Stuart and I were trading and did pretty well here, selling numerous toy cars as well as the green T25.  There were also special displays for the ‘Type 2 Owners Club’ and ‘Volkswagen Owners Club of Great Britain’.

The Breakfast Club provided the entertainment on the Friday night and The Conmittments on the Saturday, with many people dressing up in Blues themed outfits.

On Saturday evening there was the traditional “Rundfahrt”, a cruise around Malvern by approximately 100 air and water-cooled Volkswagens.

Over the years the cruise has become part of local folklore, with residents lining the streets to cheer the convoy as it travels around the streets of Malvern.

The children’s entertainment consisted of Pablo the Clown, Abbey and Teabags.  Plus Animal Antics provided their unusual array of animal and insects to make you squirm!  There was also a FREE crèche which meant that parents could skulk off for a look around the trade and auto-jumble without all the winging and moaning.

This show has been going on for 25 years (before I was born, just) and I really enjoyed it.  In my opinion the show was actually better than Vanfest, which is held at the same venue, providing a much more chilled out atmosphere.

Kirsty.
