weald Country show

Show report by club member Stephanie Renvoize…

This was our first time at this show so we weren’t sure what to expect!  We arrived on Friday in the early evening to find 19 members already on the plot, enjoying the lovely evening.  We quickly set up, had some dinner and chatted to other members.  Apparently the entertainment had already started earlier on as Brian had a near death experience involving a chair and a salad!  Lynne couldn’t tell me more because she was giggling too much.  On Saturday we had 21 members and on Sunday 26, which was impressive.  There was a good assortment of vehicles on the stand, 10 Beetles, 6 T25 Campers, 8 T2’s (incl. 1 Tin Top) and 4 Split Campers (incl. 1 Crew Cab).

The entertainment ranged from Billericay dog display team to the Medieval Battles, with the Society’s members in period costume and housed in a very splendid encampment.  The show also had live music on Sunday and a Youth Dance Troupe, which was very good.  There were also an assortment of craft stalls and food vendors and lots of things for the Kids to do and watch including making their own kites.  I had the honour of timing the "Speed Shoot" for the Archers on Saturday morning, which was good fun.

The weather was glorious both days, but I have to say the highlight for me was the slightly energetic game of "Baseball" that our lads played against a few of the medieval lads on Saturday night.  This was played in two rounds, the latter half descending into chaos due to rain, lack of light and soberness, etc. and also poor Brian getting hit by a tennis ball that got misfired, so to speak!

The show was busier on Sunday with an impressive display of classic cars by the Chelmer Valley Car Club.  There was also a display of Vectra's by Vectra C Owners Club on the other side of the main arena and more things going on during the day.  Although the setting was lovely, the show seemed to have a slightly disorganised feeling to it and some of the entertainment seemed a bit crammed in at one end of the field.  Apart from slight sunburn and my Hubby’s hay fever, we had a great time.
