battlesbridge classic vehicle show
Show report by club member Karl Reilly…
This was our first show with the club and also our most local show as we live just a few hundred yards away. We joined the club at this show last year, but for one reason and another the Beetle wasn't ready to show so this was to be it's first outing.
Since we're so close to the site, I offered our services to help Brian set up the stand on the Saturday - always a task that needs doing. When we got there, the club was in it's usual place at the bottom end of the field and a few members were already there. An hour or two later, flags were up, gazebo in place, display boards put out, and the tea was made. Philip, the chap with the T25, was already on site and had helped (as usual) to set up the gazebo and there were some other campers setting up too.
Sunday dawned with some really great weather. We aimed to get down to the show good and early and were surprised to see quite a few club members there already. We had a perimeter of campers and a good selection of Beetles in the middle. The only downside? We were next to a Ford stand - not quite the models I had in mind when I thought of a 'classic' car show.
The friendly nature of the club quickly became obvious. We were chatting to people in no time at all. We heard about Gary’s travel woes, when their very nice green camper broke down on the way to the show Saturday afternoon - they arrived with the help of the breakdown services and spent some of Sunday trying to get a new fuel pump for the journey home. I understand they got one, but had further problems when they tried to fit it.
The rest of the show had some interesting and 'different' (read into that what you will) cars that catered for a varied taste. It was almost as good to walk around the car park as it was the main show, as many people were turning up in some show-worthy cars that were just left in the car park. We had a bit of a preview of the cars arriving, as the gravel access road was right behind the club stand - good to see the cars go past, but it did mean that were slowly getting covered in dust from the track.
The show judges must have had a real challenge to select some wining cars, given the diversity of what was on show, but I'm glad to say they do have some taste… Mr & Mrs Sullivan’s moss green coloured Beetle was selected as best clubstand car. What a turn up for the books!
This was a good show and a nice relaxing day, topped off with the club taking a prize as well.
Hope to see you at a show soon.
Karl Reilly.

Thanks for the report Karl, it’s always nice to receive a show report from a club members and to hear what they think of the shows.
Please remember that if any member knows of a show that you would like us to attend then please let me have contact details and I will try to get a club stand. We need a minimum 4 club vehicles to make it worthwhile.
Brian.
